Sandra Froman: ABC News Person of the Week

ABC News: Person of the Week: Sandra Froman While not a completely wonderful portrait of Sandra Froman, ABC news at least does select her. Actually it is a bit amazing to me that they even picked her as "Person of the Week." Maybe they figured it was the best way of staging an attack. Of course there are attacks, but we will get to that.

In the typical MSM way they get the facts wrong. Whoever wrote the headline thinks she is, "First Woman Elected President of the National Rifle Association." She isn't, Marion Hammer was the first. But what is more to the point, the author of the story gets it right, identifying her as the 2nd woman president. So whoever writes the headlines, didn't bother to read the story. So they both get the facts wrong and right. [Update 4/27/2005 they changed the subtitle to remove the error.]

The MSM couldn't let a story on the NRA go by without complaining about the fact that the so-called Assault Weapons Ban expired. And they whine about it in good form.

And they have to get in a dig over the Minnesota school shooting. This is a straight-forward attack on Ms. Froman. God forbid anyone should say anything about the fact that so-called gun-free zones are also "defenseless victim zones." (See the Ohioans For Concealed Carry website for numerous stories on this subject.) Or that school shooters are usually stopped - whenever they are stopped - by other people with guns. (But these are just more of those pesky facts.)

They do end with a money quote though.
"I believe there is evil in the world," Froman said. "And I think that good people need to protect themselves from harm, from criminals who seek to deprive them of their life or their liberty."
