Women and the Shooting Sports: Getting Started

Female-only groups help women get started with guns A nice article from Arizona about getting started. Two groups and one state program are mentioned for people in that area.

Stresses the idea that learning about safety is important, that everyone should select their own weapon, and that you can have some fun along the way.
It's increasingly rare, but there are still gun shops with clerks who cop an ultra-macho, condescending attitude with those who know less about firearms than they do. Happily, there's no need to put up with that when there are plenty of customer-friendly shops out there with staff members who are happy to answer your questions.
Actually, this is more common than this paragraph leads one to believe. But they are right, you can refuse to do business with the worst offenders.
