Even in California It Is Legal to Defend Yourself

San Jose Mercury News - SoCal teen shot dead, two others arrested in attempted burglary A homeowner had suffered several burglaries, so when there was pounding on his door Halloween night, he armed himself and waited.
He fired several shots as the door was forced.

The boys fled but Patton collapsed in the driveway and was pronounced dead. His friend, whose identity was not released, took off in a car driven by 18-year-old Duncan Nicholson, [San Bernardino County Sheriff's spokeswoman Arden] Wiltshire said.
The 16-year-old was grazed on his arm.

The two survivors are being held without bail on murder charges since it appears "their actions led to a death."

The Brady Campaign will count this death as a teen tragically shot, since the fact that it appears he was engaged in a crime at the time doesn't count in their eyes.

As for the homeowner, he is neither charged nor held.
"It looks like it was self-defense," Wiltshire said.
Police believe these three were responsible for the previous burglaries at this address.

Self-defense is a human right.
