Do Police Get Special Treatment?

No matter how steadfastly Sheriff Laurie Smith insists that her deputy didn't receive special treatment after he drove his patrol car into three cyclists last week, many of you sure aren't buying it.

I know a lot of people don't like cops, but the voluminous, vociferous response to my Wednesday column that raised questions about whether Deputy James Council received special treatment reveals a level of anger and mistrust that's pretty disturbing.
He drove his cruiser into 3 cyclists and killed two of them.

Now I don't know what happened, but the reaction is interesting. There seems to be a lot of smoke; is there a fire someplace?
