"(The homeowner) woke up, grabbed a rifle, confronted the person (and) shot him inside the house," San Antonio Sgt. Steven Peterson said. "(It) looks like the person was able to get back out the window and collapsed in the back yard and died."Some people will feel bad that this miscreant died. But he made a choice. A bad choice as it turned out, but you have to live with the consequences of your choices. If you don't want to be shot, a good place to start is to refrain from breaking and entering, because sooner or later, you will meet and armed homeowner. No guarantees that you won't be shot for other reasons of course, but that would remove one source of risk. And in Texas, the risk is substantial.
Police are still investigating, but they said it appears to be a case of self-defense. No charges have been brought against the homeowner.
