You Say That Like It's a Bad Thing

One concerned citizen voiced his fear that one of these juveniles breaking into homes is going to get shot by an irate homeowner.
You see, there are "young people" (that's their term, you and I might call them hooligans or vandals) intimidating the good citizens and breaking into empty homes. Or they have tried to break in, anyway.

And yes, if they break into enough homes, eventually they will find an armed homeowner, and suffer the usual consequences. Is that a bad thing? I happen to think that the presence of armed homeowners does reduce crime. (Look at the burglary rates in the UK, where householders are disarmed and discouraged from defending themselves in any way). Even if it didn't reduce crime, those homeowners have the right to defend themselves.
