Call to 911 Ignored

Slain student called 911, but no one came in time - The dispatcher didn't hear the sounds of a struggle or the screams that the 911 tape reveal. So police arrived 48 minutes later, and investigate her death.

A gun may not have saved this woman, but relying on a call to 911 didn't help. The only thing might have been her ability to defend herself - the training and the tools are mostly forbidden to college students. I think firearms provide the best means of defending one's self, but they don't constitute a guarantee of safety. There are no guarantees in this life.

48 minutes is long enough to die. Call 911 if you have time, but don't count on them to save you. They may not even believe you have an emergency. [hat tip to Xavier]
