Chicago Off to a Quick Start

Police investigate first Chicago homicide of 2009 -- After 508 homicides in 2008 (a 15% increase from the 442 recorded in 2007), the first homicide occurred early on New Year's Day.
A 47-year-old Chicago man was fatally shot in the head after an early morning dispute on the city's West Side.
This isn't a nationwide problem... as the story Utah murder rate drops in '08 illustrates.

Will Chicago do anything differently in 2009? Probably not. Real change would require Mayor Dumbbell to admit that his strategies suck. Continuing to do the same thing and expecting different results is one definition of insanity.

Update: The Associated Press: Baltimore not as bloody in '08 with fewer killings. No, it can't be Mayor Dumbell's policies, can it?
