Even in Illinois, Self-defense is Legal

Daily Herald | No charges for Waukegan store clerk who shot robber The People's Republic of Change has to admit that self-defense is legal.
A Lake County grand jury said Wednesday no criminal charges should be brought against a Waukegan store clerk who shot and killed an armed robber.
The comments are filled with people who think the clerk should be hung out to dry, and the authorities conducted "an exhaustive investigation" because they were hoping to charge him with something.

Illinois lacking a strong version of the Castle Doctrine, some are betting the relatives of the dead guy will be suing the clerk and the store.

Self-defense works. And it is legal, even in the People's Republic of Change Illinois.
