Tom Sturgess was returning to his residence when he noticed a Ford Crown Victoria parked in his driveway. Sturgess blocked the Crown Victoria by parking behind the vehicle. Sturgess who was armed with a pistol, walked up to the Crown Victoria to see what was going on. Sturgess began to question 27-year-old Arthur Lewis Clark, a passenger in the vehicle. Both are in custody. Both are charged. Both are "persons of interest" in other burglaries in the area.
27-year-old Darron Eugene Johnson, who was not in the vehicle, aggressively approached Sturgess. A physical altercation between Johnson and Sturgess followed resulting in Johnson being shot in the foot by Sturgess. Clark remained in the vehicle until police arrived. Both Johnson and Clark were taken into custody by police.
Legal self-defense works, and is a benefit to society, since police cannot be everywhere that law-abiding citizens can.
