If you are in love with the Hollywood-style, three-act screenplay, where the good guys wear white hats and the bad guys wear black, you probably won't like Watchmen. There is also an element of Quentin Tarantino-style time jumps. (A fair amount of the story is told in flashbacks.)

But if you can deal with complex storytelling, alternate views of history, and ambiguous heroes, with an ending that contains questions, you might just like Watchmen. The characters are complex. The fight scenes are wonderful - at least a couple of them. The alternate history is engaging. Overall, I don't think it was as good as 300, or Sin City, but it is better than Spiderman 3, or Fantastic Four hands down.

There is some pretty graphic violence, so you should take that into consideration.

I hadn't read the graphic novel, and I could follow the story, easily. The "summary" I had read in the press proved more confusing than enlightening, but it didn't matter.

Go see it; you might like it.
