I Keep Thinking About Obama's Plea to Remain "Open-minded"

Funny, but I wonder if he would ask those on the Left to remain open minded about things.

Things like global warming climate change, or closing Gitmo, or keeping troops in Iraq, or ...

No, I didn't think he would.

As several of the talking heads have pointed out, if you are opposed to abortion, you believe it is the murder of innocents. How much compromise can you expect from people with that view? About as much as you can expect from anyone with dogmatic positions.

Not all disputes are amenable to compromise. If you ever take a negotiation class, the first thing you are taught is to determine your best alternative to negotiated solution. If I am selling a used car and I believe it is worth $2000 and you have only $1500 to spend, it possible we can compromise, but not guaranteed. If you believe in a religion that holds women are inferior to men, then there is no way we are going to be able to reach a compromise on any number of positions.

People who believe that you can always reach an agreement (the Left?) don't really believe in anything. If I am willing to draw a line in the sand, and you are willing to draw a line in the sand, then we can only agree if there is some overlap. Otherwise...

So is the plea to remain "open-minded" just a polite way of saying "get over yourself?" Or a plea to change your core beliefs? Like I said, only people who don't believe in anything...
