That's when the man with the hatchet came after the homeowner. The suspect hit the homeowner in the head, just before the homeowner opened fire.

Small abrasion from the hatchet. Non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Hmmm.... tough choice. As one commenter said, don't wait - open fire.
