"Hopefully this is a lesson to criminals -- don't underestimate anyone"

I doubt that most criminals are smart enough to learn this lesson Woman Who Shot Invader Speaks Out

What lesson is that? If you break into enough homes, you will eventually meet an armed resident. Results in that case are fairly predicable. If you are particularly unlucky, that will happen the first time you try it.
The woman said she was lying on the couch watching television just before midnight Sunday when she heard someone try to kick in her door.

She said she pulled out her gun and fired one shot. Her attacker fired back and that bullet is still lodged in her window sill.

What the woman said she didn't know was that the man attempting to kick in the door was shot in the neck and later showed up at Research Medical Center.
She has been traumatized, and has moved out of her home for fear of the would-be home-invader's associates. (Was he the only one involved? Who knows?)

This working, single-mother acted to protect herself.

Self-defense is a human right.
