“maybe this'll give him a little message”

Man Shoots Alleged Armed Robber That message would be, "Crime can be hazardous to your health."
Police said they do not expect to file charges against a 75-year-old man after he shot a teenager who tried to rob him at gunpoint.

The shooting occurred Monday morning while Richard Maiden was taking his dog for a walk.

Maiden said a teenager approached him and asked questions about his companion, Vinny.

"He asked me what kind of dog it was and I told him," Maiden said. "And about that time he pulled the gun, put it in my face."
This "kid" ended up with a bullet wound in his leg. (The "teenager" is 18 years old, and when he is charged, will be charged as an adult. Language is funny thing.)

The would-be-robber collapsed about a half-mile away and picked up by police. They also recovered a gun and the victim's wallet.

Self-defense works. Good Guys 1, Bad Guys 0.
