He isn't in tune the reality of what we formerly called the "War on Terror."
Yet it has taken him two weeks to show that he finally understands what al-Qaeda and the bid to blow up Flight 253 are all about: they want to kill Americans, no matter who is the president. At long last he acknowledged the US was at war.He has an exaggerated view of his own effectiveness.
It really seems as if beforehand he believed that his Cairo speech and outreach to Muslims would have an immediate effect. His appeasing tone may reap long term benefits, but the president seems to have woken up to the fact that being nice will not deter al-Qaeda."Nice guys finish last." Being nice is OK, as long as you are respected. "Walk softly and carry a Big Stick," is still a better way to approach the world than bowing and scraping and wanting everyone to like you. Because when all is said and done, not everyone is going to like you.
