Mayor Dumbbell Daley and Gun Control

How to Distract a Press Corps | Politics | Chicago Reader How? Threaten to sodomize a reporter who dares question policy.

The Chicago Reader isn't exactly part of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy. It is the independent weekly. But even the Reader is starting to question the effectiveness of Chicago's gun ban.

You see, Chicago has a problem. They aren't the largest city in the country (about half the size of New York, actually) but they have more gun violence and murders than New York. And of course the law-abiding are disarmed, and so at the mercy of the criminally violent.

So what happens when a reporter has the gall to question the emperor mayor?
That's when I asked the obvious question about whether he thinks Chicago's gun ban has been effective: it's clear people are getting and using guns in spite of it.

The mayor told me it was and then offered to show me just how effective. He grabbed a rifle, held it up, and looked right at me. He was chuckling but there was no smile.

"If I put this up your—ha!—your butt—ha ha!—you'll find out how effective this is!"
Yeah, that is what passes for rational discussion in the Chicago Machine's world.

Go read the whole thing, because after the interaction with Daley, Mick Dumke, the reporter, went on Cam Edwards' show. [via NRA-ILA]
