I Thought Cooperating Was Supposed to Ensure Safety

Apparently these guys didn't get that memo. Circle K clerk shot during robbery on White Bluff Road | savannahnow.com
Two men entered the store around 6 a.m. and ordered the clerk to open the cash register, said Julian Miller, metro police spokesman. After she opened the cash register, the gun was discharged and she suffered a gunshot wound, Miller said.
A lot of people will claim that cooperating with criminals, "giving them what they want," will ensure your safety. (Usually men talking about robbery, and never mentioning rape.)

But it is clearly not true, as so many instances prove. Cooperation is a strategy, not a guarantee. If you choose to adopt that strategy that's fine. Just don't insist that I share in your delusion.
