[Police Chief Don Byington] said police were called at 11:22 a.m. today to a Lindale Circle residence. The homeowner “told police he heard a knock on his front door, and when he went to the door, he observed an individual walking around the side of his house.”The guy who got shot is in the University of Mississippi Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. He faces from 3 to 25 years in jail for residential burglary of an occupied dwelling.
Byington said the homeowner retrieved a .45-caliber pistol, and that when the man entered his back door, “he fired a round and struck him.”
An investigation is continuing, [Byington] said, but he does not anticipate charges against the homeowner.Self-defense is a human right. Good Guys 1, Bad Guys 0.
