Shani Davis Becomes First Black To Win Individual Winter Olympic Gold

Shani DavisDavis Does It His Way, and Makes History. I guess he gets a lot of flack from his team, and let's just say that the winter Olympic community isn't used to integration.
Davis became the first black athlete to claim an individual gold medal in Winter Olympic history Saturday, winning the 1,000-meter speedskating race and justifying his decision to focus on himself first, his team second.
He has received a lot ill wishes (that he fall, break his leg, etc.), and he has been called all of the usual names in messages left on his website.
His victory came four years after Vonetta Flowers, the bobsledder from Alabama, made history at the 2002 Salt Lake Games as the first black athlete to win gold.
Davis gets grief for looking out for himself, but 4 years ago, nobody looked out for him and he was dropped from the team.
