This sounds like a movie

Telegraph | News | 40m stolen in Britain's biggest robbery Kidnap the family of a bank manager, and force him to help you rob his bank.

First, they grabbed the manager, posing as the police.
At around the same time, two men posing as police officers called at his home in the Herne Bay area and escorted his wife and young son from the house, saying that there had been an accident involving her husband.

The petrified wife and boy were then held hostage and the manager was warned that their lives were at stake if he failed to co-operate.
They got millions of pounds worth of bank notes.
£40 million cited by ITV News "does not seem far off the mark".
It is a good thing the UK outlawed guns, because only some of the robbers were armed.
