Good Guys 2, Bad Guys 0 | Intruders thwarted; one killed, one hurt One shot takes out 2 goblins.
The incident began at 1:40 a.m. at a single-story brick house at 3301 Dearborn Drive. The couple who lived there were at home with their 15-month-old son when two men, at least one bearing a firearm, kicked in the front door, said Durham police spokeswoman Kammie Michael.

One of the residents shot at the intruders with his own handgun, striking both. One of the intruders fell dead inside the house. The other got away, police said.
Rashaad Cox, 19, showed up later at a local hospital. He was arrested and charged with first degree burglary, armed robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony possession of cocaine (he was carrying drugs when he showed up at the hospital.) Cox is a convicted felon and was on probation when this crime was committed.

Police have not identified the dead guy. And yes, the News & Observer is calling the dead guy a victim. He is no victim. (I encourage eveyone to write to the editor, and let them know how you feel about violent criminals being portrayed as victims.) If you attack me, and I kill you in self-defense, you are no victim.
