There was a restraining order. That seems to be what triggered whole thing.
Sgt. Diaz found a handkerchief that contained tarot cards. The top card said "Justice."Justice does in fact - in a mundane reading - imply a court case.
When Diaz asked the roommate what the word might signify, she said it might be because Smith had obtained a restraining order against him.
After he abducted her, he let her call family.
About that period of time, Smith called her mother, father and sister to say goodbye. She spoke to her sister, but left messages on her parent's voice mail. In the voice mails, Smith told them she wished they would answer the phone and that she was with a man with a gun.Was letting her call family a blessing, or ghoulish on his part?
When she spoke with her sister, she said, "I'm scared. This will probably be the last time I talk to you," Linda Gilersleave said Saturday evening.
There are many questions... Why wasn't he arrested for violations of a restraining order? Why weren't medical personnel called to the site of the shooting? (Not that it would have done any good... the victim was shot twice in the head at close range.)
The whole thing is fairly disturbing. I can't imagine what she went through, faced with death like that.
