MSNBC, parody and racism

I keep going over in my mind how MSNBC reporter Alex Johnson mistook a parody for reality.

What if a Republican politician had confused parody with reality? Would the Left and the MSM accept a simple correction that said, "Oh, we got taken in by a hoax. Those nasty pranksters!" Or would they be howling about racism?

Now I don't particularly like Al Sharpton, but it was pretty clear that even he wouldn't say anything as stupid as what was on that parody site. So what does this whole thing say about the real attitudes of the reporters and editors at MSNBC? I'm just asking.
