Why Isn't She Charged with Attempted Murder?

STLtoday - Law & Order: Woman shot ex-husband in shower, charges say She shot him, NOT in self-defense, but while he was in the shower.
A woman accused of shooting her former husband as he showered at his south St. Louis County home was charged Wednesday with first-degree domestic assault and armed criminal action.
Assault with a deadly weapon or attempted murder should be enough. But our elected officials can't leave well enough alone. They have to invent all sorts of laws and crimes to justify their positions.

She shot him (or is at least accused of doing so) while he was not a threat. This doesn't require some BS law about domestic assault - it is plain old assault, or assault with intent to kill, or something that has been around for eons.

Simpler would be better.
