China's Product Woes Worse in Other Countries

Asians Say Trade Complaints Bring Out the Bully in China - washingtonpost.com Candy that contains formaldehyde, cosmetics with enough mercury to cause skin-discoloration (that's heavy-metal-poisoning!) and dried fruit with cancer-causing agents.

Indonesia complained, and China called with a solution.
But according to [Husniah Rubiana Thamrin Akib, head of Indonesia's top food and drug safety agency], the Chinese suggested Indonesia lower its safety standards.
Sweet.

I think that speaks volumes about how serious China is regarding the fixing of all these problems. Just make the problems go away. Anti-freeze in the tooth-paste? Who cares?
In dealing with product safety complaints from the United States, China has sought to convince a concerned American public that it has reformed and is doing all it can to ensure the safety of its products. But its dealings with other, less-developed countries or those in vulnerable political positions are a different story
I think I know which is the real story, and which is the propaganda story.

And China has retaliated against people who have problems with tainted food.

Every American business should find alternate suppliers for anything sourced in China. No, every business everywhere should do that. At least until they can demonstrate that they have these problems fixed, and it doesn't even sound like they are working on the problems.
