Cooperate with Humiliation and Still Get Shot

Robbers Ask Man To Take Off His Pants, Run, Then Shoot Him - News Story - WFTV Orlando They robbed him, told to take off his pants and run. He did that. They shot him anyway.
"He took off running, but apparently he wasn't running fast enough for them. One of the suspects went ahead and shot him for no apparent reason. The victim was offering no resistance, he was trying to run away from them," [Cmdr. Rick Luckey of the Orange County Sheriff's Office] added.
I'm surprised that they didn't ask him to squeal like a pig.

Cooperation is no guarantee of safety. Violent criminals will not become non-violent based on any action of yours. "If you give a mouse a cookie, he's gonna want a glass of milk." I think cooperation usually falls into the category of encouragement.

Now being prepared to defend yourself is also no guarantee of your safety - there being no guarantees in this life except death and taxes. But self-defense does work. Wearing your seatbelt offers no guarantee you will survive a crash, but we do it anyway, because it changes the odds in our favor. Besides all of that, how do you want to remember the event?
