Police said early reports indicate that two men broke into an apartment on the 1400 block of Telshor Drive at 8 a.m. Sunday. The resident was awoken by the break-in, then grabbed a nearby handgun and opened fire.If you break into enough homes, you will eventually meet an armed resident. (If you are really unlucky, that will happen on the first home.) Results in that case are fairly predicable. Just what happened here.
A man only described as Hispanic and in this 20s was shot and killed by the resident. The other man is still on the loose and was apparently not struck.
The paper says the police haven't said if the resident will be charged for defending himself. I don't know anything about the state of the Castle Doctrine in New Mexico, but this seems like self-defense to me.
Self-defense is a human right.
