This 17-year-old will counted by the anti-gun crowd as "a teen tragically shot." Of course if he survived to face prosecution, he might have been tried as an adult. The fact that he was breaking and entering is not of interest to the anti-gunners. (Why clutter the issue with facts?)
[The homeowner] told officers that he fired shots toward the entrance to the mobile home and subsequently found that at least one of the shots had struck a youth ... .They have 3 people in mind and are searching.
Sheriff Burns said three other suspects were believed to have fled the shooting scene and were still being sought this morning.
The sheriff says most burglaries in that area are by people addicted to prescription pain-killers, though he couldn't offer definitive information in this case.
If you break into enough homes, you will eventually find an armed homeowner. If you are really unlucky that will happen the first time you try to break in. What ensues when you meet that armed resident is no surprise. (At least not to me.)
Self-defense is a human right, and a group of thugs breaking into a home in the middle of the night is a reasonable threat. Or at least I think so.
